In this game, you will have the opportunity to experience life in the Ancient Republic. You will be able to participate in various customs, festivals, and sporting competitions, all while raising a family and climbing the social and economic ladder of Rome.

You will have the ability to educate your children, arrange marriages for them, and even sponsor their elections. Once your character dies, you will usually take on the role of your eldest son.

The game has no set endgame, allowing you to continue playing and experiencing life just like in real life. However, a major goal for any ambitious Roman family is to achieve a Consulship of the republic. This can also be your goal in the game, as you work your way up the Cursus Honorum and become a "New Man" or "Novus Homo".

It's important to note that the game can be challenging at times, and just like in real life, you may face setbacks and have everything you've worked for taken away in an instant. But with the way the game is designed, you will likely still end up growing wealthy and reaching the Senatorial class at some point. There is no game-over, and life goes on no matter what happens.

The core philosophy of the game is to simply experience life and have fun, without the pressure of winning or losing. The game should be enjoyable at every level, whether you are a commoner or a senator, with different goals and challenges to face.
