Hex Commander: Fantasy Heroes is a turn-based strategy game that immerses players in a fantasy world torn apart by war. The game features five races - Humans, Orcs, Goblins, Elves, and Dwarves - as well as the undead, all vying for control of the land. Players must build their armies and utilize the unique skills of their heroes and units to achieve victory in single-player, skirmish, and multiplayer PvP modes.

The game offers four exciting campaigns, each with its own playable hero and unique challenges. In the Human campaign, players take on the role of Percival Kent, a paladin sent to investigate Goblin activity. As the kingdom teeters on the brink of war, players must forge alliances and prepare for the inevitable invasion. The Elven campaign follows Arcaena, leader of the Elven archers, as she searches for a powerful druid to help her tame the forces of nature. The Orcs and Goblins campaign allows players to control a mighty dragon and his cunning goblin friend, Vulpis, as they search for the source of unnatural floods. Finally, the Dwarven campaign introduces three new playable heroes and their unique abilities as they face new enemies in their kingdom.

To gain an advantage in battle, players can use magic in addition to their army. Heroes can use scrolls to summon undead or powerful golems, create fire or toxic clouds, and awaken their enemies' rage. Each campaign also features a castle that players can expand and upgrade to suit their preferred fighting style.

In addition to the single-player mode, players can test their skills in PvP multiplayer, with three different modes to choose from. The game also offers a single-player skirmish mode featuring the heroes from each campaign.
