More About Japanese dictionary

JDict is a Japanese-English offline dictionary featuring over 160000 entries, over 10000 kanji and almost 60000 example sentences.

This application is a dictionary for the iOS platform that is largely inspired by the well-known "[Imi_wa?]" dictionary. It has similar functions and visual design as the original dictionary. The app currently has several features, such as the ability to work offline, show kana and romaji as you type, support wildcards in vocabulary, and provide recent words, examples, and kanji. It also has a romaji mode in search and a fast example search. Additionally, it has a feature to extract words from sentences and provides kanji stroke order animations. The app also has a unique algorithm for matching furigana, but it may still have some bugs. In the component view, users can see all kanji with a given component ordered by JLPT level and word commonness. In the kanji view, users can see all compounds with a given kanji ordered in a similar way. The app also allows users to search for kanji by components and browse them by JLPT and school grades. Users can also take notes and create lists, which function like favorites but with folders and sub-folders. The vocabulary search also recognizes some basic grammar when typing, and in the word detail view, examples are categorized by word meaning if a connection exists.

The app's current features are mostly basic, and the database file is quite large at around 230MB. This is because it contains a lot of example sentence data and requires many indexes to run smoothly. The developer's plans for the app include making it more user-friendly, adding a feature to learn vocabulary using lists, and allowing users to export lists to Anki. They also plan to add external links in vocabulary, kanji handwriting recognition, and a game called Shiratori. The developer also has ideas to improve the extract words algorithm using a statistical approach to make it run faster.

The developer would like to acknowledge the Electronic Dictionaries Research Groups, KanjiVG, Tatoeba, KanjiCafe, and Tanos (JLPT) for their contributions to the app. They strive to be original and SEO-oriented in their approach to the app's design and features.
