More About Mines of Moria

You are tasked with slaying the Balrog deep within the Mines of Moria. A translation of Robert Alan Koeneke's (1957-2022) Moria into a touchscreen first experience.

Six classes and up to eight races are available in this game, allowing for a unique and customizable play experience. As you battle through randomized dungeon depths, you can start your game in town with either rags or riches, depending on the custom character backstory you choose. For new players, the Warrior class is recommended as a good starting point.

The game, created by Koeneke, takes place in a world of entropy where even powerful artifacts can fall apart. Survival is key, as you face merciless foes and learn the conditions of staying alive. However, the game is not meant to be won, as the ultimate foe, the Balrog, is beyond any of the players' abilities.

As you progress through the game, your character gains experience and can improve their attributes, such as strength, intelligence, wisdom, constitution, and charisma, in a similar style to Dungeons and Dragons. You can also acquire spells, armors, weapons, wands, staves, potions, scrolls, legendary artifacts, and mining tools to aid you in your journey.

Your character is saved persistently on each level transition, but the large dungeon levels are randomly generated and do not persist. If needed, you can return to town to renew your character and trade for goods. The town is also randomly generated during character creation, and the shopkeepers have unique personalities and biases.

The game boasts several features, including the ability to play in both landscape and portrait orientation, with the option to lock rotation. Each class has its own save slot, and the game allows for seamless task switching with a resume-to-midpoint feature. You can also backup your characters to external storage for future restoration or access via a PC data cable.

The game prides itself on being an excellent offline, turn-based mobile gaming experience. It uses on-demand rendering to conserve battery life, and game actions can be executed with a simple finger tap. In case of accidents, the input can be reverted. The game also has a small download size and small patches, making it easy to download and update. There is no network access, ads, or in-game purchases, allowing players to focus solely on the game. The game also offers a smart run feature for fast dungeon exploration, with the option to halt if a threat is detected, catering to different play styles.

For those interested in learning more about the game's input and controls, there is a documentation available on the website. The developers also welcome feedback from players, as they strive to improve the gaming experience.
