Moose Math is an educational mobile app designed for children to learn and practice math skills in a fun and engaging way. It falls under the category of curriculum, specifically focusing on math. The app features 5 different activities that cover a range of math concepts, including counting, addition, subtraction, geometry, and measurement. These activities are designed to align with the Common Core State Standards, ensuring that children are learning important math skills that are relevant to their grade level.
The first activity, Moose Juice, allows children to make smoothies while practicing counting, addition, and subtraction. The second activity, Paint Pet, helps children match pets by counting the number of dots. The third activity, Pet Bingo, challenges children to solve addition, subtraction, and counting problems in order to get BINGO. The fourth activity, Lost & Found, teaches children about shapes and colors through sorting. And finally, the fifth activity, Dot to Dot, helps children practice number patterns and counting by helping the Dust Funny find his way home.
In addition to these activities, Moose Math also focuses on developing specific math skills. These include understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities, solving word problems and algebraic thinking, and practicing number pattern recognition. Children will also learn how to count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, as well as master counting to 100. The app also covers addition and subtraction, teaching children how to add and subtract by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, as well as up to 20. They will also learn how to add and subtract using numbers, dice, and rekenrek racks. Geometry and measurement are also covered, with children mastering these concepts at the Kindergarten and First Grade levels.
One unique feature of Moose Math is the Parent Reporting section, where parents and teachers can monitor their child’s progress and discover new skill-building activities. This allows for a more personalized learning experience and helps parents and teachers track their child’s growth and development.
Moose Math was developed in collaboration with Stanford University Educator, Jennifer DiBrienza, who holds a PhD in Early Elementary Education and is a former NYC public school teacher. The app is also a part of Duck Duck Moose, a subsidiary of Khan Academy, a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. As part of Khan Academy, all Duck Duck Moose apps are now free, without ads or subscriptions, and rely on the support of volunteers and donors. This allows for equal access to quality education for all children.
