Developed in cooperation with educational specialists by an award-winning educational studio, 22learn, the creator of the best-selling Sight Words Learning Games and the reading program Phonics: Fun on Farm, this application is designed to help prepare children for success in kindergarten and school curriculum. It features 18 fun and educational games that focus on teaching and practicing the most common sight words, which are the most frequent words in children's literature. These words do not have a simple letter-to-sound correspondence and must be learned "by sight" in order to improve reading fluency. The application uses the popular Dolch Word List, originally compiled by Dr. Edward W. Dolch, which is divided into 5 categories and includes an extra category for nouns. The games are designed to be easy to use and engaging for children, with a variety of activities such as word recognition challenges, spelling exercises, and memory games. In the game, children join Abby the Monkey on an adventure in Candyland, a magical land filled with pink unicorns, candy fruit trees, and chocolate rivers. The unicorns need the children's help to grow magical plants that sustain the land, and the children must play educational games to earn gardening supplies and grow the plants. Some of the games included in the application are Candy Fruit, where children must tap on the words called to ripen the fruit and feed it to a hungry monster, and Spelling Challenge, where they use a candy typewriter to spell sight words and celebrate their success with fireworks. Other games involve helping aliens board a wheel, clearing clouds for a flying monkey, and decorating cupcakes with the correct toppings. Overall, Sight Words Adventure in Candyland is a fun and interactive way for children to learn and practice sight words, helping them to improve their reading skills and prepare for success in school.
