Spanish Civil War

The application is a non-political strategy game that puts you in command of the armed forces of the Nationalistic Faction during the Spanish Civil War. After a semi-failed coup, the Nationalistic Faction finds itself in control of two separate areas in Spain, while the majority of soldiers and major cities remain loyal to the left-leaning Republican side. While most countries choose to stay out of the conflict, the Communist Soviet Union supports the Republic and the conservative Nationalist side receives support from Germany and Italy.

Your goal is to navigate the chaotic and dispersed setup of your forces, ranging from weak under-strength Militia to battle-hardened Army of Africa, in order to consolidate enough territory under your control. This will hopefully entice more support from abroad and allow you to continue the struggle for full control of Spain.

The game offers a "what-if" alternate history setting, where you can choose to disable or enable certain elements such as German tanks and airforce, Italian troops and airforce, and the African Army. The campaign also strives for historical accuracy while still providing a fun and challenging gameplay experience.

Thanks to the game's smart AI technology, each play-through offers a unique war gaming experience. The opening setup is extraordinarily chaotic, with no properly formed front lines, forcing players to make difficult strategic and tactical decisions early on.

The AI opponent is multi-layered, balancing between strategic goals and smaller tasks like encircling nearby units instead of just attacking in a direct line towards the target. The game also offers a wide range of options and settings, allowing players to customize aspects such as map/terrain style, resources, and unit types. Difficulty levels can also be adjusted.

Inspired by the words of Albert Camus and George Orwell, the game aims to provide entertainment rather than make a political statement. So, can you lead the Nationalistic Faction to victory in this chaotic and historically significant conflict? The choice is yours.
