Spindle - A word chain puzzle

Spindle is a word game that is easy to play but requires strategic thinking. The goal of the game is to create a chain of as many 4-letter words as possible, starting with a given seed word and using one letter to create a new word. However, as the game progresses, the spindles (or letters) lock, making it more challenging to find playable words. To continue the game, players must unlock all the spindles by turning each one once.

The game uses a dictionary of over 4,000 four-letter words, and the game ends if a submitted word is not in the dictionary or if there are no more playable words with the remaining unturned spindles. Players can scroll through the word chain at the top to see the words they have played, and the bar underneath indicates the number of playable words available for each combination. It is important to keep an eye on this bar to avoid breaking the chain.

If players get stuck, they have three chances to use a 'save.' There are two types of saves available: Undo, which allows players to go back one word, and Unlock, which makes all four spindles available to turn again. The length of the chain depends on the player's vocabulary and gameplay strategy.

Spindle is available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, and gameplay, high scores, and in-app purchases can be synced across all devices through iCloud. This means that players can start a game on their phone and finish it on their watch without any issues.
