More About WiFi/WLAN Plugin for Totalcmd

WiFi transfer plugin and standalone app (does not require Total Commander)

This application is a plugin or tool that allows for direct connections between two Android devices or between an Android device and any other device or computer with a web browser or WebDAV client. It creates a local server that can be accessed through a URL or QR code. This server can be used to transfer data between devices without the need for an internet connection or cloud storage.

The plugin is primarily designed to work with Total Commander, but it can also be used as a standalone tool. Users can select files, text, or URLs in any file manager and use the "share" function to send it to the WiFi plugin. This will start a server and provide a URL and QR code for others to access the data.

One of the main benefits of this plugin is that it allows for local data transfer without relying on the internet or cloud storage. This means that sensitive data will never leave the user's own wireless LAN network, providing an extra layer of security.

In order for the plugin to work, both devices need to be connected to the same WiFi network. If the sender is not connected to a WiFi network, the plugin can create its own access point or establish a WiFi direct connection. Other devices can then connect to this network to transfer data. Additionally, the plugin can automatically establish and close connections when scanning a QR code from a copy of the plugin.

It's important to note that Android 10 and newer versions require the "Location" permission in order to create a WiFi direct server. However, this permission is only requested when trying to start a WiFi direct server and is not needed for normal operation when both devices are on the same network. The latest version of the plugin also offers a more secure login method using DIGEST authentication, which is recommended for regular connections between devices.
