The Network Tools application by he.net, also known as Hurricane Electric, is a comprehensive suite of network diagnostic tools designed for Network Engineers and System Administrators. This first version of the app is constantly seeking feedback to improve its functionality.
One of the key features of this app is the Interface Information tool, which provides information about the current network state of your device. Additionally, the app includes tools such as ARP/NDP resolution, Bonjour Browser for mDNS/ZeroConf services, and a Device Manager for looking up local devices' MAC, NETBIOS, IP, and other information.
The DNS lookup feature allows users to search for a server's DNS zone records, including SOA, NS, A, AAAA, MX, TXT, and rDNS. The IP Calculator tool is also available to calculate the Netmask, Wildcard, Network, Host range, and Broadcast for a given subnet.
For performance testing, the app offers Iperf (v2 and v3) for running TCP and UDP tests, as well as a Ping feature for sending ICMP packets to a single IPv6/v4 address. Users can also perform a Ping Sweep to send ICMP packets to an entire subnet range. Traceroute and Progressive Traceroute are available to find the route packets take to reach a destination, and the app also includes a Port Scan feature for scanning custom or pre-defined TCP ports on any IPv6/v4 server.
Other useful tools included in the app are the MAC Browser for looking up vendor names and addresses, One Time Password for adding HOTP and TOTP two-factor authentication accounts, SSL/TLS Analyzer for inspecting certificates, and Whois for obtaining information about domain registration, ASN, IP allocations, and more. And the best part? No ads!
This app is also available on IOS, making it accessible to a wider range of users. The feature graphic for the app is a derivative of "West Texas Lightning Storm" by jeffk, used under CC BY 2.0. The developers encourage users to be original and SEO-oriented when providing feedback for the app.
